LIVE CREATIVE - SLUM SOCIABLE
Tell us a little about yourself?
We’re a duo from Melbourne called Slum Sociable. We released our debut album last Friday. I’m not sure how to categorize the music we make without sounding like a wanker, so maybe just listen to a track and if you dig it, keep listening. If not, send your criticism to slumsociable@gmail.com we read all of it xx
Who influences you in the creative world?
Aside from other musicians and stuff I’d say the people that we work with on a daily basis. For instance, our friend Jem Ranklin did our film clip for Don't Come Back Another 100 Times and we were so impressed with the direction it went in. We've got really inspiring/creative friends I guess.
If you had to give up (music/art/design) what would you do?
I’ll (Cregan) answer this on behalf of Miller; he would be a dancer. He’d be a good motherfucking dancer too. His mum runs a dance school which I’m sure he excelled at as a child (there’s footage somewhere), so he has that youthful muscle memory shit down.
Who were you/would you be nervous to meet?
I met Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear when I was 21 and just completely embarrassed myself. At the moment though I reckon it would be Bill Simmons. No real reason other than I probably listen to his podcasts more than I do actual music at the moment. That's probably not great for creativity actually. Ah well.
What artist are you vibing on at the moment?
CyHi The Prynce. His vocal tone is so raspy and perfect and legitimizes my nasty smoking habit.
If you had a superpower what would it be?
My superpower would be to fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I mean, I’m a pretty good sleeper, but when you’re on tour and you have 3 hours before a show and your body clock isn’t allowing you to get that much-needed rest, this would help so much. Dream big.
How do you like your denim?
Loose and fast.
What’s your favorite trend of 2017?
Probably the Smashmouth resurgence via meme that we experienced in 2017. I always thought that it was one of the most vociferous/catchy acts of all time when I was young, and I'm glad they kind of came back into the fray.
Tell us a fun fact the readers wouldn’t know about you?
I wear a tiny, underwear sized pair of jeans underneath my jeans at all times. It just feels right!
What’s on the cards for the rest of 2017?
We’re about to head off on tour starting in Sydney this Friday and then that's it for 2017 for Slum Sociable.
