LIVE CREATIVE - BELLA GRIFFITHS
Bella is a Kiwi based photographer and artist who, shoots documentary, fashion and street photography. She shoots candid authentic images that represent real life. We recently sent her some of our favourite Ziggy Denim pieces and she created some epic content. We got the chance to ask the talented Bella more about herself and her work.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm a 21yr old photographer and artist. I'm keen on photo books, yum cha, Larry David and travelling. Currently, I'm studying at Massey's College of Creative Arts in Wellington and interning at Capital Magazine. My drawing has taken me to San Francisco and I have been lucky enough to paint for Redbull at OurHouse festival.
Who influences you in the creative world?
One of my biggest influencers are my friends, who are endlessly creative and talented, I always draw from them. I'm also heavily influenced by photographers and postmodern vernacular photography is my soft spot. I'm a movie geek, so filmmakers will always inspire me. Some of my favourites are Sophia Coppola, John Luc Goddard and Quentin Tarantino.
If you could describe your art using three words, what would they be?
Weird, honest and beguiling.
What inspires your art?
My art is fueled by a curiosity for life. Taking photographs, drawing and reading my surroundings is a way I can comprehend all the wonderful, eccentric and often melancholic absurdities of life. Also, the street and its people will always inspire my art. I am at my most engrossed when on a busy, dirty sidewalk with a camera in hand.
What artists are you vibing on at the moment?
Deana Lawson, Collier Schorr, Dee Willaims, Magda Rakita, Sian Davey and Harley Weir. All are visionaries and boss chicks. I also love Arwa Alneami's work, 'Never Never Land'.
If you had a super power, what would it be?
Definitely being able to make snacks appear out of thin air!
How do you like your denim?
I like my denim to live with me through thick and thin. My favourite pair of jeans is one that has been on fun and fucked up adventures with me.
What is your favourite trend for 2018?
Sustainable fashion and vintage always!
